365 in 52 [2013] ~ Week Thirteen

A good week. Last week was good. Curtis and I like each other a lot right now, which is nice since it seems like we go in phases and have a hard time matching up. Both kids had good weeks at school (whew)… hard to say if it’s the increase in meds (sad) or the new behavioral metrics we’ve instituted (a lot of work) but it’s probably a combination of them both.

Day 85 ~ My Good Side

Rarely do I let my hair go natural and I always forget how wavy it is. And my mom, being naturally very curly, was tickled to see me wear my hair like this. I wonder if everyone has a good side and bad side? I definitely do. I like this side of my face much more than the other.

Day 85 ~ Voight Soccer Field

While at soccer practice for Anna, there was a momentary parting of the children which left a clear view of the opposite side of the field. I marveled at the blue sky, the green grass… one of those moments where you realize you are seeing something for the first time even though you’ve seen it before.

Day 88 ~ I Get Lost

Probably an awkward in-camera crop… I don’t care. Dominic’s eyes never fail to mesmerize me and he was indulgent enough to let me use my macro on them. Thank you, Pickle.

Day 89 ~ Please (do not) Discard

Mom and I had lunch together on Saturday, just the two of us. We ate at Chipotle (WW-friendly 9 points for a chicken fajita salad with black beans, peppers and onions, corn relish, and a sprinkle of cheese) and sat outside since the weather was so agreeable. The grackles were ready for us to drop any morsel. I cracked up to see them actually dive into the trash can and I love how they are sitting there just waiting.

Day 89 ~ What Are You Looking At?

Having found an incredible patch of bluebonnets in the field behind my house, I returned home to see Charlie poking his nose through a hole in the fence. I’m not sure he was too keen on getting his picture taken here but he was so cute!

Day 90 ~ Fallen Blossom

The tree beside our driveway is just starting to bloom. It’s a hybrid tree from A&M of which I can never remember the name. This perfect blossom had fallen and caught my attention after Anna and I played outside last night.

Clickin Moms Meetup

One of my favorite things about belonging to the Clickin Moms forums is the chance to make new friends. CM has thousands of members and I’ve been doing my best to keep track of the ones located in the Austin and Central Texas region. My best estimate is over 40 in the Austin area alone! We had a meetup this past weekend to do some street photography and socializing. 14 of us attended… some from as far away as San Antonio and Ft. Hood! I wanted to share a few of my favorite images from our meetup and encourage anyone who is interested in photography to check out our forum. Clickin Moms rocks!

365 in 52 [2013] ~ Week Twelve

This week Anna had several rough days. It was tough. In-school suspensions (two), multiple calls and emails with her principal, teacher, and neurologist, tears (mine and hers). We are seeing her psychiatrist this afternoon. I’m not sure if she needs a med adjustment, if she’s dealing with hormones, or if she’s having deeper behavioral problems, but I’ve promised her we will help her get control again. It breaks my heart to witness these rapid changes in personality and mood, and not be able to know what is best to help her. But in the midst of upheaval, there is normalcy too (actually our normal is more chaos than not). We went to soccer practice, played frisbee outside, and I got a little time to myself and met up with some other Central Texas Clickin Moms last night.

Day 79 ~ Soccer Season

I took this at Special Olympics Individual Skills soccer practice, hoping to get several more images with Anna playing. But she had an odd episode and ended up not playing at all.icon sad 365 in 52 [2013] ~ Week Twelve

Day 80 ~ Fallen 1 and 2

While playing frisbee outside with Anna, a huge flock of birds took off from a neighbor’s tree. One flew into the garage and stunned himself, falling to the ground. At first, I thought he didn’t make it as he was laying on his back, but after a while, he flipped over so I crept quietly over to see if he was okay. I was able to take a photo with my macro lens before he flew away later.

Day 80 ~ My Heart Stops

I took my first image, Pensive, for the CMpro Daily Project and got this one too… I love this boy so much.

Rodeo Austin

Every year over spring break we take the kids to Rodeo Austin. We waited to go until Jenny could join us, and it was wonderful being all together again. We haven’t yet watched the actual rodeo but some day, as the kids get older, we’ll stay late and watch the bull riding and steer wrestling. Our favorite things to do are walk around (a lot), visit the livestock, play a few midway games (then lecture the children why it’s impossible to win the giant stuffed Pokemon), eat some food, then go home. They never want to ride any rides, not even the merry-go-round. But we always have a great time and this year was no exception. Though it wasn’t quite as much fun being on Weight Watchers… Curtis and I were good and didn’t eat any junk. I packed some fruits and veggies that we munched on instead.

The first few photos are visiting with the livestock. Anna really wanted to pet the cow next to the girl, but only one was accessible. After Dominic introduced himself to Colbert the horse, a goat bleated at us as loudly as possible from across the way, so we had to go visit him. This goofy goat kept standing up to see us, then would lean backward and fall back! So silly! It made Anna laugh and laugh. Then Dominic bought a hat and we cajoled Jenny into trying one on too. A few games, then it was time to eat. Dominic’s pizza was as big as his face… and I noticed the reflection in his sunglasses. I finished out the trip by taking some images of the attractions set against the beautiful Austin sky. The kids were very good, minus a small upset about the midway games. I’m using a new Tych Panel collage maker that is free. It’s super easy to use and I love seeing my snapshots presented in storyboard format.

And for my photog geeks… I traded several lenses to get the new Sigma 35mm f/1.4 Art Series lens that very day. This entire trip to the rodeo was taken with the 35. The color rendition is spectacular… almost too vibrant! And the focus is tack sharp. I am very, very impressed.

Thanks for looking! (And sorry for enabling any Nikon shooters who are considering the new Sigma!)

Jax ~ Austin Baby Photographer

I would like to introduce Jax! Mom and Dad contacted me a few weeks ago wanting to get newborn photos of their baby boy. At 4 weeks of age, Jax was still a little peanut and was wide awake. Mom’s sister made some special Dr. Seuss letters that we wanted to capture, so we got together for a quick second session when he was 6 weeks old… and we caught a big smile! Here are a few of my favorites from our time together. Jax, you are one special little guy!!!
