Macro Monday: Chip(s)

Monday, May 22nd, 2017

This week’s theme for the Flickr Macro Monday group is “Chip(s).” From this week’s instructions:

I love words that have many meanings and different ways to illustrate them. Our next week’s theme is going to offer you a smorgasbord of options for your subject matter. What is this wonderful word that will be our theme this next week? CHIP(S) What? Yes, CHIP(S)! Just think about all the possibilities… There are potato chips (crisps), taco chips, pita chips, chocolate chips, fish and chips, ice chips, wood chips, color chips, diamond chips, chipped ceramic ware, china and glass, poker chips, credit card chips, microchips, a chipped tooth, chipped fingernail polish, chip reader, a chip shot (in golf and tennis). There are also these idioms: a chip off the old block, having a chip on one’s shoulder, when the chips are down and being in the chips. There was even a very popular TV program in the USA (late 70’s to early 80’s) called CHiPs!

Texas Tradition

Anytime you sit down in a Mexican (or Tex-Mex) restaurant in Texas, you get chips and salsa brought to your table without even ordering them. Some salsa is very spicy, some is mild, some is thin, some is chunky, some is fresh, some isn’t. Chips range from homemade to bagged, thin and crispy, fat and hearty. Our family also loves queso with our chips and salsa. Queso can also come in a variety of recipes and we have our favorites. Here in New Braunfels, one of our favorites for queso and chips is Casa Garcia’s. We also love Herbert’s but yesterday we took the family to Casa Garcia’s for migas, starting off of course with chips, salsa, and queso. Adding a dollop of salsa on top of the queso-covered chip is the best! Yum!
