366 in 52 [2016] ~ Week Twenty-Two

This week brought us Jenny and Chris’s housewarming party; rain, rain, and more rain; and the last week of school! Daddy was home all week. I colored. It was a good week. We needed a good week after the last one.

Day 148 ~ New Obsession

Sooo I’ve noticed that Dominic is starting to have mild obsessions like Anna’s… at the moment he desperately wants a guinea pig. All spring he wanted a guitar. Now that a month has passed since he got one, the allure has worn off and he doesn’t want to do guitar lessons anymore (we are making him stick with it for at least three months). Now he wants a guinea pig. Year before last, it was a claw machine. Last year, it was a 3D printer. Now, a guinea pig. We’ve never had a guinea pig before and we are considering it but there is some concern that interest will wane once the honeymoon period is over. But gosh, they are cute little things, aren’t they?

Day 149 ~ Housewarming Happy

Jenny and Chris had their housewarming party this weekend. First they invited family over in the afternoon, then had friends over in the evening. It was nice to see the in-laws… hadn’t really seen them since the wedding almost two years ago. Jenny is so so so happy, I don’t think I’ve ever seen her this happy. She is loving her job as a 911 operator and has already helped save a life. Chris is also very happy, I’ve not seen him this relaxed ever. I love that they are creating their own life together. I am so proud of them and their home is beautiful.

Day 150 ~ Close Encounter

I was out feeding the deer and after I came back in, I saw a tiny fawn with its mother. I ran back to get my macro and crept out front but didn’t see it again. I sat very very still and quiet by one of the feeders and got a close encounter with this doe, but no baby this time. It’s on my bucket list to shoot a fawn (with my camera, never a gun!!!). Hopefully soon!

Day 151 ~ Rainy Day Snail

Two days of rain and counting. I found this itty bitty snail on my front porch reflecting in the pool of water that surrounded my welcome mat.

Day 152 ~ Was That Thunder?

Mom was in town and offered to pick up the kids for me Tuesday afternoon. Right before school let out, a huge storm rolled in. Cricket, mom’s dog, is super scared of thunder so I put her up on the bed with Curtis. She huddled between him and our pillows. There was a big crack of thunder and I swear she looked up at the sky.

Day 152 ~ Downpour

The storm was so fierce and dramatic that I bounced all around the house taking pictures. We lost power two or three times.

Day 152 ~ Overflowing

It had already been raining for two days, so the ground was super saturated. This huge storm dumped 4.6 inches in our neighborhood in just an hour and a half. Our pool overflowed.

Day 152 ~ Sheets

Looking out the front of the house, rain was pouring off the roof in sheets. I slowed down the shutter speed to capture the huge amount of rain we were getting.

Day 152 ~ Flooded

This is our side yard by the driveway. There is normally NO water here at all. Wow. That’s probably a foot of water there at the deepest point.

Day 153 ~ Aster (for my mom)

Mom asked me very sweetly if I could get a picture of the asters in our flower garden. They were almost burned up and gone, but one was still in bloom. These are tiny little blossoms and are so pretty. She said that her mom used to grow them when mom was a child.

Day 153 ~ Frond Lines

The palms are growing like gangbusters thanks to my mom’s green thumb. I love the lines on the palm fronds, they are very soothing to look at and somewhat mesmerizing.

Day 154 ~ Last Day of 8th Grade

Today is the last day of school and the last day of 8th grade for Anna. This fall she will start high school. Gulp. Though she is still struggling with pretty severe OCD (Andy Hurley from Fall Out Boy is still the frontrunner), we have greatly limited her online access to search him. It’s helping. She is happier at the moment. I am especially grateful for Mrs. Deanna Lowry at Church Hill Middle School. She made it possible for Anna to really flourish this year. Summer school (ESY) starts June 14th.

Day 154 ~ Last Day of 6th Grade

Today is the last day of 6th grade for Dominic. Overall he had an incredible year. He discovered that he likes (and has a talent for) theater. He’s made many new friends and kept some old ones (hi Nik!). I could not be prouder of how hard he has worked… academically, emotionally, socially, and spiritually. I am very grateful for Mrs. Megan Ramos at Church Hill Middle School… she truly saved my son this year.
