“The Way I View”, A Clickin Moms 12-Month Challenge: January ~ New Beginnings

I’m participating in a fun 12-month challenge at Clickin Moms called “The Way I View”. Each month a group of 12 CM photographers interpret that month’s theme through photographs, then link to each other’s blogs. It should be a lot of fun! I’m super excited about my group… we have some wickedly talented photogs!

January’s theme is The Way I View: New Beginnings. I wish I knew some pregnant women, that would be a perfect photo, wouldn’t it? But I don’t, so I had to come up with something. I’ve used this month to study, study, study. I’ve been practicing OCF, panning, and lots of other stuff. The sun rises behind our house and I wanted to try my hand at a DIY HDR effect. For this shot, I used 3 exposures at one stop under, one stop over, then one at proper exposure to try to capture the highlights, midtones, and shadows of the sunrise. Then I merged them together in Photoshop for an HDR-like effect. I know it’s terribly amateurish but I’m sharing it to show my starting point. We all start somewhere whether it’s learning your camera or new skills with your camera!

Since I’ve had my macro lens on my camera 90% of the time this month, I decided to focus on flowers for the majority of this month’s photos. There is something about the promise of spring right around the corner that inspires me to take a deep breath and get energized. Seeing flowers getting ready to bloom or ones that have just bloomed makes my heart happy. So here are my New Beginnings buds! (And yes, I know I’m super lucky to live in Austin. This time of year is why it’s worth it!)
