Oh so sweet! A new lens and a new love!

Macro!!! I’ve been wanting a macro lens for so long and my dear husband tried to get me one for Mother’s Day but it didn’t work out. So I found a used one, not the one I really, really want (the 105mm) but I’m happy with it! I got a Nikkor 60mm f/2.8 macro and tested it out within minutes of the UPS man leaving.

Here is my first image… the infamous gold box. I’m digging the razor-thin DOF.

Anna really wanted to play baby dolls so I thought I would test it out on baby doll lips when to my surprise at the top of the stairs, a tiny spider was on the wall. To show just how tiny it was, I put my hand next to it. It was about the size of my little finger’s fingernail.

To get this shot, I had my macro on a tripod, then leaned my camera against the wall and used a remote release. I was literally only an inch or two away from this tiny spider.

A side view. I thought this was pretty freaking cool for my first attempts!

I started wondering what a Lucky Charms marshmallow would look like close-up. I’m weird like that.

Trying out my new macro as a portrait lens on Charlie. It is very sharp.

You gotta have some nature shots if you own a macro, right? These berries are on the pear tree out front and are wrapped up in either a silkworm’s web or a spider web. I cropped in close on the next photo.

The close-up.

Tiny lavender flowers in my neighbor’s yard.

This is an extreme close-up of a tiny white flower on my mom’s front porch. These flower blossoms are maybe 1/4″ wide.

Then Anna and I took a walk down the street and I found a flower patch with a bee buzzing about. It was HOT and very windy so I wasn’t sure I could get a shot. I got closer and closer, and got this one of the bee’s behind. I love the composition on this one and the pretty bokeh.

Then one more… a profile shot that when zoomed in, you can see the tiny hairs on its leg! It’s not perfect at all, but not bad for my first day. I have so much to learn! And I can’t wait. 😉

Thanks for looking!
