I have lived in Austin since 1986 and last Sunday was the first time I’ve been to the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center. It’s smaller than I expected (and more crowded too) but really is a beautiful oasis of gorgeous flowers. For the last month or so, Curtis and I have been taking the kids on an adventure every Sunday for what we like to call our Weekly Photowalk. We chose a destination where we can walk or hike around with the kids and photograph our adventure. Curtis is shooting with my old D40 and Jenny is shooting with her D90. This was Jenny’s first photo walk with us since she had been working every Sunday in the past. I have several weeks worth of photos from our photo walks to share (the Perdanales State Park photos were the first I think) but since I’m so behind I thought I would start with last Sunday, April 10th, when we went to the wildflower center. The kids were being rotten so I didn’t get very many photos at all and even fewer of the kids.
This is the Color Garden… a huge garden of bluebonnets and other wildflowers that greets every visitor on the far side of the courtyard.
Here’s a closeup of those famous Texas bluebonnets. I could not get a photo of my children in front of them. Phooey.
This was a huge, long trellis that ran the length of the main part of the center. In the center were smaller gardens.

There were walking trails on the outskirts of the center and we took a short hike (very short because the kids were grumpy). I can’t get Dominic to take a serious photo lately. Sigh.

All in all, it was a pretty place that we will go to again… well, we’d better because we bought a family membership, lol! Hopefully our next visit will be more fun and we’ll get some shots with the kiddos too.
